We are in November. There is frost on all of those leftover pumpkins still lying around (if they have not been consumed by a moose). There is frost on the ground, and the grass that was hopefully cut for the last time this year. And so far, there is no snow, although it is soon to come!
If you are an equal opportunist when it comes to decorating for the holidays, this time of year, you may be transitioning from your Halloween decorations to Christmas ones. That is typically what we do. We own and operate Outten Riding Ranch, a south Anchorage horse boarding & stables barn that also features a busy horseback riding program. For Halloween, we typically host a Trick-or-Treating event at the Barn. The property comes alive with fun inflatable decorations, Fall decorations, lights, and really the whole works. There are warming fires, treats, candy, hot chocolate, coffee, games, and prizes. Not to mention the opportunity to have your picture taken with a horse. It is a lot of work, but worth it because it’s a lot of fun for both the kids and parents. We did not host the event this year due to Bobbi’s travel, which was disappointing because we had the perfect weather for it. But, it also means we don’t have to take down a bunch of Halloween decorations to prepare for Christmas!
This is November, though, and the next holiday is Thanksgiving. I’m going to take a quick pause here and just be real. We have had a hard year. Our family has had challenges; we have had some heartbreaking times with our animals, while others have had, and continue to have, health issues that bring a constant level of stress and anxiety. BUT, despite all of that, I am still thankful. Our faith in God, and seeing His ability to be with us each step of the way, is truly amazing. Being a Christian does not make life easier. But during the hard times, you know you are not alone. We put our trust in God for both the good and the bad times, and He never fails to be faithful and gracious. So for that, I am thankful.

Bobbi is scheduled for surgery on November 11th. She will have three cervical vertebrae fused. Ouch! As you can imagine, she will need a significant amount of recovery time. I will be her main bedside nurse for at least a week or two. This will mean work in the office of Alaska Web Studio will slow down and, at times, be sporadic. We ask for a little patience and understanding until we can get Bobbi back on her feet ☺️.
We recently published our how-to guide for website maintenace for those with WordPress websites. However, if you want to keep your website running smoothly, read our article.

We have recently updated our approach to partnerships with businesses and organizations for new website projects. Our new website design packages were built to remove sticker shock from professional website design services, but that isn’t all. Our new packages also include 2 years of hosting, Service, and Support.
We reviewed our late fee policy for unpaid invoices. Many of our clients are extremely timely with invoice payments, and we appreciate that very much! However, with more late payments coming in, we realized we needed to tweak our approach. Starting the next billing cycle in November, a 5% late fee will be assessed to unpaid invoices 15 days after the invoice date. All invoices are due net 15 days, so this will take place on day 16 for unpaid invoices. The late fee will compound every 15 days until the invoice amount is paid. Just to be clear, we are not in the business of collecting extra revenue from late fees. We are hoping this will incentivize more timely payments.
